Bespoke Channel Drain

Bespoke Channel Drain

As part of a building extension, kitchen build and garden design project we also create a bespoke channel drain to create a seamless aesthetic from the inside to the outside space.

Rather than installing the typical plastic or steel drain covers we used the beautiful stone tiles that were used in the kitchen extension and the garden patio which allows us to create a seamless look marrying the outside and the inside.

This beautiful garden design has a number of successes but one of the elements we’re most proud of is the bespoke channel drain created using the same stone installed within the kitchen extension and the patio.

When building an extension you will need a channel (linear drain) drain to prevent rainwater from pooling, flooding or causing damage to the property.  Often referred to as an ACO drain because of the strength of the brand. ACO is to linear drains, what coke is to cola so you will often hear people referring to an ACO when they simply mean a channel drain.

The standard channel drains are functional products that are typically supplied with a plastic or metal cover. For this project we wanted to create an almost seamless look from inside to out. Because the tiles inside and out were chosen to be the same we decided that the aesthetics of the project would be improved by making even more use of the tiles. This is why we decided to use them again to build a bespoke drain cover.

This really was the only solution available to create this matched look using the same stone. It is worth mentioning that over time the tiles used outside for the patio and the drain will start to look different to those used in the kitchen because of the influence of the elements and that’s part of the charm too. It’s exciting to see how the stone will age differently in their respective environments.

Our foreman landscaper took a selection of the tiles to the workshop and crafted this stunning bespoke channel drain cover. The level of detail is to the highest standard to create these stone grates.

A well designed garden is more than a garden, it is another room. So despite the modest size this courtyard garden isn’t somewhere that owners will complain is too small. They won’t wish that it was bigger because they’ll look at it differently, they’ll be able to enjoy this additional space that extends their house outside as they pull back the kitchen doors. This is in part achieved through the attention and care given to every detail such as these stunning bespoke stone channel drain covers.
